On my 30th birthday, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Truthfully, I couldn’t help but think what the fuck!?! I ate well, was in great shape, enjoying life and… BOOM! I was diagnosed with cancer. It was then I made a promise to seek out the truth to health and wellness.
I graduated with an honours degree in Neuroscience at the U of A and a dental degree at NYU. In 2010, I started an Orofascial Pain and Sleep Residency at UCLA. I was treating pain symptoms like migraines, headaches, TMJ, nerve and muscle disorders but I quickly realized that the care focused, not on providing a cure, but on prescribing drugs to mask the symptoms. I became frustrated, as my actions as a doctor were not having the positive health effect my patients needed.
At the same time, I started practicing yoga and realized the amazing benefits of Bikram Yoga. By practicing Bikram Yoga, I healed my body, mind and spirit. I found life again. In overcoming my health issues, I realized there is a simple rule to being healthy: you must work hard to be healthy. We work hard to be successful in our studies, careers and relationships. But we take our health for granted. Our health is no exception. In fact, our health should be our number one priority.
I have taught yoga all over the world, helped train thousands of teachers from around the world and I’ve gained invaluable yoga knowledge. I am ready to share this priceless gift with you.
In 2011, I was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of pancreatic cancer. After 9 years of post-secondary education, my legal career as an environmental lawyer was just beginning but my body was telling me something else.
A year after my cancer diagnosis, I decided to take ownership of my physical and mental wellbeing. I quit my job to become a yoga teacher and travel the world. It was the best decision I made in my life. Now, I feel stronger both mentally and physically, than I ever did.
After years of travelling the world teaching yoga and learning from the most experienced Bikram Yoga teachers in the world, I am excited to share my knowledge and passion with you. I am excited to help inspire students to wake up and reconnect with their own health and wellness because the most important person in your life is YOU!
Working as a registered nurse, I noticed how stiff and achy my body was feeling. The effects of 12 hour shifts, flipping between working days and nights, and constantly leaning forward to provide patient care were beginning to slowly break me down. I loved my job - but I was not loving how I felt physically. I had heard good things about the benefits of yoga so thought, why not give it a try!
I never grew up playing sports and, in fact, had quite severe asthma for most of my life. Physical fitness = not my forte. I started off with absolutely zero, other than my own motivation, and went straight into Bikram Yoga and haven’t looked back since.
I have gained so much more from Bikram Yoga than I ever thought possible. It just makes you feel so damn good!! Although I started this practice to strengthen my body, it has provided just as much benefit (or more) to me mentally, emotionally and spiritually and, for all of that, I keep coming. It is truly an integral part of my life.
I became a teacher in 2015 and have enjoyed sharing my love and experience of this practice in the various cities I’ve lived in across Canada. I’m so happy to be back home in Edmonton, at Studio X, with all of you!
Morgan found Bikram Yoga completely by chance at a time when she felt lost in her life. Suffering from bulimia and depression which had completely taken over her life.
Bikram Yoga made her really see herself for who she was. It made her start to truly understand the connection between body and mind and really strengthen that connection. It made her love herself and forgive herself. The bulimia stopped, the depression stopped and she was finally feeling like herself again.
She started to bring the people closest in her life to class and saw how drastically it changed their lives, their happiness, their self worth and their quality of life. She immediately knew it was something she wanted to share with the world. So one morning she woke up, a week before training, and decided she had to go.
